My Hair Evolution!

Happy Sunday/Monday and welcome to another blog post! Since I’m always wanting to let you guys get to know me, I thought what better whan than doing that than showing some cringe worthy photos of me. That’s right, I’m talking about my Hair Evolution throughout the years. I’m always telling people about a certain hairstyle and digging through my Instagram and Facebook to prove to them it actually happened so might as well just go through it all today! Now normally when people do Hair Evolution posts or videos they show off all the different color they’ve had but I didn’t really start coloring my hair crazy colors until last month so mine is mostly filled with… oh why tell you now and let’s just get into it!

My Natural Hair

Look at my baby face! This photo is from July 2007 and this is my natural hair. For as long as I could remember I always had longish brown curly hair with the occasion of trimming it every once in awhile. Around this time I just got into straightening my hair (I remember spending a long time in the morning doing it because it was so long and thick) I hated my curls so much back then so those rare occasions when I actually let my hair be naturally curly (and didn’t curl it…even though I had naturally curly hair??) I still had to at least straighten my “bangs” because I hated how much it looked.

August 2011

So I kept it like that for pretty much my middle school and high school days. I straightened and curled it a lot and the shortest I would ever let it get was to my shoulders. But I just graduated high school and had the new me kind of attitude. Plus this was the time that my favorite actress Emma Watson had cut her hair in a pixie cut and I wanted to be just like her but when I went to get it done I got scared and couldn’t go full pixie. I didn’t mind the cut, It was very hard to manage though with my curls (It was almost a fro) so yes by cutting it killed all the dead ends from heat but I was still straightening my hair every day.

July 2012 First Hair Dying Experience

So in the summer of 2012 I decided that it was finally time to do something different. Before this the most dyeing I’ve done with my hair is a few blonde highlights here and there but not fully dyeing all of it. But I was like what the heck I’m an adult (I was about to turn 19)! I originally wanted to go all black but since it was my first time I was too scared I wouldn’t like it, so I was suggested by my older sister to start with dark brown to see if I like my hair that dark and then maybe go black. It wasn’t a big change compared to my normal brown hair but I enjoyed it and rocked it! It was a great first experience for me and as you can see down the line it wasn’t my last time!

October 2012

So I rocked the dark brown look for a few months, and in October of 2012 I finally got the confidence to go full black. And according to this photo I had enough confidence to try bangs (for the first time… this becomes a reoccurring thing). Now the hard thing with having bangs for me is the fact that I have crazy curly hair and I’m lazy (things haven’t really changed). If I don’t style my bangs they curl up and becomes a poof. If I style my bangs but don’t style my hair it looks like the early hair styles of Hermione Granger. But the days where I wasn’t lazy and actually took the time to style my hair (as much as I could back in the day) I really liked having full bangs.

April 2013

In time I started to get sick of the black and was really missing my brown hair so I let it fade and grow into the closest I would ever get to my once brown hair. The laziness completely took over because I was growing out my bangs as well as my hair. I actually really liked my hair like this, especially the length (I’ve always like myself with long hair more). With the exception of styling my bangs, I actually let my natural curls flow and it was actually pretty cute. Also just a side note, I apparently still had no idea that you can put makeup in your eyebrows.

December 2013

But of course yet again I was bored with just keeping my hair the same so I cut it shoulder length (and miss the length right after) and dye my hair red. Now of course with all the experience I had with dyeing my hair I didn’t think that with the base being brown you wouldn’t be able to have red hair so my hair ended up being more of a maroonish purplish color. I didn’t really mind the maroon hair but it wasn’t what I was wanting.. But I still rocked it! Also, still didn’t know you could have makeup in your brows.

February 2014

The maroon is still pretty much there (I learned that black and red are the two hardest colors to get out of your hair.. Even when you dye it back brown) but spontaneously I decided to try bangs once more! I am impressed with how well they turned out (I usually cut them myself) as well as how much my makeup skills (this is the time I really started getting into makeup) and yet, I still didn’t put makeup on my brows. Guess it didn’t matter much cause I had bangs to cover them up!

May 2014-January 2015 The Game Changer

So of course I got lazy with the bangs and let my hair grow out but I still found myself wanting to do something with my hair. I didn’t want to cut it because I finally got my hair the length I wanted (oh don’t worry… that’s going to change really soon) and I knew that I didn’t wanna go back to black or red so the only color left that was “natural” (Starbucks back then didn’t allow crazy colors as much as I wanted to have crazy colors) blonde. And with the blonde ombre trend going I thought I would hop on the band wagon and try it out. So I went to target, got a kit by Lo’real I think and with the help of my older sister I bleached my tips. I honestly thought it wasn’t going to work (I remember being rushed cause I had to go to work) but once I got out of the shower and saw the blonde I was so in love! I couldn’t believe it actually worked (especially because it came from a box) and the more and more I looked at it the more I fell in love with it. I also noticed that with the blonde in my hair I had this new found confidence in myself, I can’t really explain the confidence I had but I know it was there. Putting blonde in my hair was a huge game changer for me… I even got rid of it for like a month and missed it and the confidence that came with it so I put it back then… until the next hairstyle…

May 2015

It must have been a trend where everyone around me was having a pixie cut (Emma Watson’s hair had grown out way from her pixie cut) because even though I loved the blonde hair and I loved the length my hair was I suddenly really wanted to try for a pixie cut again. But once more when I got to the hair salon I chickened out and this was the result. I was a little nervous because It was literally an hour before work when I got my hair done and I had no time to style it because I had to work, but I was pleasantly surprised with how my natural curls took the haircut (aka it wasn’t an afro). Plus it seemed like my co-workers liked it (or at least they were surprised which that was my goal!) so if anything just the excitement of doing it on the limb was fun enough!

June 2015

So finally after a few weeks I decided to just do it and I got hair cut to a pixie! It was also just in time for the Marianas Trench concert that I’ve been so excited for, I thought that what a good time to get my hair cut than for this concert! After years of wanting to do it but chickening out right at the end I finally just did it and I actually really liked it! The curls took it fine and went great with the hat and outfit for the concert!

June 2015 continued

I actually liked it so much that a few short weeks later I took the pixie cut to the next level and shaved half my hair! (with the help of my older sister of course) The main reason why I decided to shave half my hair is because of my curls. With the normal pixie cut there were times when my hair would dry and just poof out. So by cutting it it stays more flat and I just have to worry about styling only half of my hair, and it works out with the lazy part of me which is a plus!

August 2015-December 2015

It didn’t take long until I started to feel insecure with my hair after getting the pixie cut. So through these next couple months since I knew it would take a while to grow (as much as I wished it would grow fast) I wore lots of hats (especially one certain black knit hat when it got cold) to hide my insecurities. As it slowly started to grow I noticed and joked around with friends and family that my hair was going through the “Bieber” look. But it was growing, and that’s all that mattered to me.

March 2016

After a few months of it growing and remembering the confidence I used to have I decided around spring break to get my hair colored to help with the insecurity I had with my hair. I worked with a few girls who went to school at Aveda so I set up an appointment with her and was excited and nervous for the change. Must be something about just having blonde in my hair but after it was done and I walking out of the salon I felt so happy and confident again with my hair. Few days later I went back in and got an undercut by one of her fellow peers. It was a great idea to get the undercut because not only does it bring more air to the back of my head but it keeps the back of my hair from poofing the more it grows. So Maddie if you are reading this thank you so much again for giving me confidence again and helping me like my hair again.

July 2016: Hair Growth

Around this time it has been a year and a month since I got a pixie cut and then shaved half my hair. It may not seem like it’s grown a lot, but thinking about it, even just from March to July it has noticeably grown! Even though it has faded, I still loved the blonde that was still in my hair and it even looked great with my natural curls!

I do have to add that even though I missed my hair long and felt insecure with my short hair I don’t regret getting my hair in a pixie cut. I wanted to do it for a long long time and I’m glad that I did it and now know how I look with it. So for future reference if I had the desire to do it again I know what to expect from it… but I don’t think that’s going to happen for a long time.

August 2016: Silver Fox

So with my hair starting to grow more the more it was time to change my hair again (don’t worry, no more cutting it). I was going through some rough times mentally so I went to Maddie again and with her magic we created the Silver Fox! I loved loved loved this color and even now I still miss it (so hey, maybe one day you will see the Silver Fox again) and is always impressed with her skills. I was too nervous to dye my hair silver (wasn’t sure how it would turn out) so Maddie had the idea to just do the silver when we went to tone it. I love the silver because it had some tints of teal which gave the silver more dimension.

September 2016

As much as I loved being the “Silver Fox” it lasted for about 2 weeks because it was just a toner. But I loved the blonde in my hair (Thank You Maddie once again!) I was originally going to go back to the Silver Fox but I loved the blonde was, I wasn’t ready to give up the blonde yet! Plus let’s be honest… hair appointments are expensive :(((!

January 2017

So keeping the blonde I just let my hair do it’s thing and grow! I let my hair air dry (with a little help of hair mousse to keep it from poofing) and cut back on styling it as much to keep it healthy (and cause I’m lazy). But every so often when I did want to mix it up I would straighten my hair just to see how long it has grown.

To be honest I am shocked with how well my hair evened out itself when it was growing out. And even though I didn’t think so, every time I would talk to a friend or run into an old friend they would say how fast my hair has grown when I tell them I had a pixie cut 2 years ago. Looking back at it all now I can say they were right and I was just impatient.

May 2017

So as you guys know, I got bored with my hair and I can’t right now afford what I really want to do with I thought why not and went on a whim and had some fun with my hair until I can afford a salon appointment (now that work allows “unnatural” hair colors in the new dress code)! I really enjoyed having pink hair and would I do it again… most likely.

Today

The sad thing about the pink is that it didn’t last as long (you would know if you read my blog post all about it, you should go check it out if you haven’t) so instead of doing pink again I thought that this time around I would do teal! And on top of it all I once again I convinced myself that I won’t be lazy and will take care of them and gave myself bangs… I blame Pinterest.

I really do enjoy doing these crazy colors I’ve been doing, it is fun way to express myself without doing something as drastic as cutting my hair (the dye is semi-permanent) but still satisfies my need for change and gives my life more of a pop of color. I would like to someday try out more colors but I don’t know what is in store for my hair or style. I still really want to do what I’ve originally want to do with my hair so we shall see how soon I will be able to do that! Until then who wants to bet on how long I’m going to keep the bangs again? Third time’s the charm maybe??

Conclusion

So that’s it! That is all the hairstyles I have had! It was fun (with a few cases of cringe) to go through all the pictures (via Facebook or Instagram) and to go back on memory lane. What is the craziest hairstyle or color you rocked? Also if you liked this type of post let me know what other type of posts you would like me to do in the comments below! Thank you for reading, I know the last couple posts have been pretty long ones so if you made it this far thank you!
