Happy Sunday and welcome to another blog post! It’s New Year’s Eve so I thought it would be the perfect time to recap over the past year and talk about goals for the new year! There are lots I want to talk about have a tendency to draw out these intros so let’s just get right into it! Here is Looking Back in 2017!
So I’m going to break this section into a few sections because lots of things happened this past year blog-wise and personally. Let’s start with the blog!
doodles.by.kat in 2017
If you have been following this blog for about a year you may have read my “2017 Goals and Introduction to my Bullet Journal” and now it’s time to see if I went up to those goals!
As you can tell from my lack of bullet journal posts I stopped making a bullet journal early in the year due to time I needed to make more blog posts and doodles but I still love the idea of bullet journaling. Maybe one day in the future I’ll get back into it but it probably won’t be anytime soon.
Other than bullet journaling, I made three goals for myself to try to achieve in 2017.
1. Write 50 Blog Posts!
I gave myself the goal of 50 blog posts this year to write (53 weeks in a year, 3 weeks I can skip) and with the addition of this blog post, I can proudly say that I wrote 66 blog posts! I will be honest, writing 50 blog posts was a little bit of a struggle for me because 3 weeks of skipping blog posts started to become 4, and then 5 and at one point I felt like I wasn’t going to be able to catch up. Thankfully with the help of the week of Halloween Posts and Blogmas I was able to keep up the blog post count and get myself to write more. You can check out my favorite blog posts of 2017 here :): https://katarinastarkinfo.wordpress.com/2017/12/29/my-favorite-blog-posts-in-2017/
2. Create 100 Doodles!
And in less than 2 months of the new year, that goal was already reached. For the rest of the year, I continued to make doodles but also set my sights on completing the blog post goal and ended the year with 159 doodles made. Here are some of my favorite doodles:
3. Establish my Youtube Channel!
I had high hopes for that but it sadly never happened. Which honestly I’m kind of glad it never did with the adpocalypse that happened this year on Youtube I didn’t want anything to do with that. Maybe a few years down the road, but that goal/dream is just going to have to wait.
Now let’s talk about some personal achievements when it came to my brand..
I OPENED MY ETSY SHOP!
Finally, after stressful nights on my computer and planning this for as long as my doodles.by.kat have been alive I finally opened up doodlesbykat! (Etsy wouldn’t let me have the periods sad face) The store has been open to the public since the end of last month and I have made 16 sales! It’s not much but knowing the fact that people even looked at my store let alone bought anything makes me so happy.
I have lots of plans for my doodlesbykat in the new year which includes new collections and ways to get you guys involved with my store so look forward to that in the new year! I know I already am!
I Was Selfish
I started the year wanting to write blog posts about things that would make people want to follow me but after a few blog posts of trying that I found myself feeling uninspired and unmotivated. And then one day (thanks to Kelly Eden on Youtube) I came to the conclusion that I want to write about what I as a reader would want to read so I changed the way I thought about blogging and wrote about what I wanted to write about. And I am so glad I did that!
Luckily you guys enjoy my posts so it all worked out in the end!
I Tried New Things
Being able to do blog posts I wanted to make me able to widen my box of blog post ideas. I wasn’t trapped doing just makeup reviews or anime blog posts, I was able to do both! That also meant I was able to try new things when it comes to blog posts.
I even showed off my awkward posing skills in lookbooks…Link: https://katarinastarkinfo.wordpress.com/2017/11/01/my-halloween-costume-2017/
I am excited to see what new types of blog posts I can do in the new year as well as try to grow my skills in the new types of blog posts I tried this year!
I Grew and Interacted With You!
The best part is how I grew as a blogger. The beginning of the year doodles.by.kat started with 30 followers and ended the year with 95 followers. That’s 95 people who deal with me ranting about Sailor Moon and Attack on Titan every other blog post! I started doodles.by.kat as a way to fill the void of not going to school anymore but who knew that it has become such an impact in my life, and that’s thanks to you guys. I love interacting with you guys through comments and have even met new friends through this so thank you! I am thinking of new ways to be able to interact with you more in the new year so…thank you. Thank you for taking time to read what this little girl from Des Moines, Iowa has to say in this crazy world.
Now let’s move on to more personal things in my life…
Personal Growth in 2017
This year has been a whirlwind of ups and downs. At the beginning of the year, I could easily say that 2017 was going to be one of the worst years of my life but I can happily say that it has become one of the hardest but one of the best years of my life.
Now I am my own worst critic, people closest know this as a fact, so when it comes to the new year I struggle with my depression because I reflect on the bad things that have happened in the past year more than the good, but not this year. This year though I know I’ve made mistakes I have achieved just as many, maybe even more.
…and drank lots of coffee…
All and all, life really tested me in 2017, but with the loving support of my friends, family, and you guys I was able to get past the stress and anxiety and was able to live 2017 to the fullest.
So that’s my 2017! How was your 2017?? What are some of your favorite memories of this past year? I really just wanted to say thank you again… I really wouldn’t be here without you all supporting me. Do you guys have any plans for the New Year? Let me know in the comments below as well as ideas for blog posts in 2018! You know I am always up to new ideas! Whatever your plans have fun, stay safe and I guess I will see you in 2018!
