Movies I Loved as a Kid!

Happy Sunday/Monday and welcome to another blog post! Recently I had one of my best friends come over and while chatting we got on the topic on movies we used to watch as kids and were suddenly on a rabbit hole of watching movie trailers from my childhood. So today I thought to dive into all of the nostalgic feels and share with you those movies. So let’s just dive right into it, here are Movies I Loved as a Kid!

*Note: As much as I loved Disney movies as a kid there won’t be any Disney movies on this list. Disney Princesses played a big part in my childhood but if I added those to the list, the list would be mostly Disney Princesses. And I didn’t want that because these movies didn’t get as much praise and recognition as they should have back in the day.

Anastasia (1997)

The first movie on the list is none other than Anastasia. This movie is about a girl named Anya who was orphaned at a young girl who is just trying to find her family. With the help of Dimitri, Vlad, and her little dog Pooka she goes on this journey to find her way to her family. I loved and still love this movie so much, as of right now it is on Netflix so I can watch it whenever I want and I remember when I was little I wanted to name a future pet Pooka cause I loved him so much.

Thumbelina (1994)

The next movie is Thumbelina. This movie is about a tiny girl named Thumbelina who meets a fairy prince and goes on an adventure through the woods. I remember falling love with the songs and characters in this story and who else sings the beginning song THUMBELINA!!!

The Swan Princess (1994)

The next movie is The Swan Princess. This movie is about a princess named Odette who transformed into a swan during the day by a power-hungry sorcerer and the only thing that can save her is the power of everlasting love. Every time I watch this movie I always think back to the time where my sisters and I would watch the movies and yell at each other “DEREK! YOU AND I WERE MEANT TO BE!” as well as “ETERNITY!” If you don’t know what songs I’m talking about just go and watch the movie and you will see why.

FernGully: The Last Rainforest (1992)

The next movie is the movie that got us in the rabbit hole, to begin with. FernGully: The Last Rainforest is about a guy named Zak whose life is changed when he shrunk and stuck in the rainforest. With his new friend Crysta and a crazy bat, these unlikely friends have to save the rainforest from a huge threat that might destroy Crysta’s home. Not only is this movie funny but it has a great theme and message about saving the rainforest.

The Pebble and the Penguin (1995)

This next movie would have to be the cutest one of them all and that is The Pebble and the Penguin. This movie is about a penguin named Hubie who goes on an epic adventure to find the perfect pebble for the penguin of his dreams. From the loveable characters to catchy songs I there will always be a place in my heart for The Pebble and the Penguin.

Quest for Camelot (1998)

The next movie is Quest for Camelot. Quest for Camelot is about a brave girl named Kayley who teams up with an unlikely group to find the lost sword Excalibur to save King Arthur and Camelot from a horrible disaster. This movie has so many good songs and shows the bravery and the efforts of teamwork.

The Road to El Dorado (2000)

The next movie is The Road to El Dorado. This movie is about two guys who venture from a map and find the legendary city of gold, El Dorado. This movie makes me so happy with the hilarious characters and the catchy songs that even as an adult find myself randomly singing.

Rock-A-Doodle (1991)

The next movie is a move I totally forgot about and that is Rock-A-Doodle. This movie is about a little boy who gets transformed into a cat and teams up with a group of barnyard animals to find the one and only rooster who can raise the sun. This movie is so much fun and I remember falling in love with all of the characters.

All Dogs Go to Heaven (1989)

The last movie on this list is All Dogs Go to Heaven. This movie is about a dog named Charlie who returns from the dead looking for revenge and finds an orphan girl. I’m going, to be honest… I loved this movie so much when I was little, I named my little-stuffed animal after the main character but now as an adult thinking about this movie I don’t understand why I loved it so much. If you watch this movie as an adult, you realize that Charlie was an alcoholic who was killed by a gang leader and tried using a little orphan girl to get his revenge on him when he came back from the dead. I mean by the end of the movie Charlie ends up loving the little girl and I guess it’s a good theme in the end but still… it’s just something I randomly think about. I guess you don’t realize these things as a child as much as you do as an adult.

So that’s all the movies on my list! Each movie in their own way gave me some sort of joy as a kid and thinking about them now as an adult gives me joy and all the nostalgic feels. What are some of your favorite movies as a kid? Did you have any “why did I love this movie” moments like I did with the last movie? Let me know in the comments below as ideas for a new blog post, you know I am always open to ideas! I hope you guys are having a wonderful start to February and I will see you in the next blog post!
