Happy Tuesday/Wednesday (and Thursday shh…) and welcome to another blog post! We are almost in the 3rd month of the new year and I realized that I haven’t done an anime blog in since last year! It’s not that I no longer like anime or writing about anime (I will always love and want to write about anime) it’s just that I’ve been getting so into writing about makeup, I just got lost and forgot about it! But don’t worry, I am back with the first anime blog post of the year! With a few days left of this month of love, I thought that I would talk about my favorite Romance Animes and Dramas! I used to be really into romance genre when I first got into anime so I’ve built a list of favorites over the years! There are so many good ones to choose from and it was hard for me to just dock it down to a few so let’s just get right into it! Here are My Favorite Romance Animes and Dramas!
We Were There (Bokura Ga Ita)
The first on the list is one I forgot about until I was looking into which animes to the list, and that is Bokura Ga Ita. Bokura Ga Ita is about a girl named Nanami Takashi who is going into her first year of high school hoping to find friends. She meets a friend and soon learns about a popular boy in her class named Yano Motoharu. At first, she doesn’t like his attitude but she soon warms up to Yano and they end up dating. This anime revolves around the struggles the two face as a couple and how much love can change their lives. I loved this anime so much because it just shows young love and what it takes to be in a relationship.
Snow White With the Red Hair (Akagami no Shirayuki-Hime)
The next anime is a more recent anime and that is Akagami no Shirayuki-Hime. This anime is about a girl named Shirayuki who is known across the land as the girl with red hair. Her life changes when a silly prince tries to force her to marry him. Unwilling to give up her freedom, Shirayuki cuts her long red hair and escapes into the forest where she is rescued by Zen Wistalia, a prince from a neighboring country. Hoping to repay her debt to Zen and his friends, Shhirayuki sets her sights on pursuing a career as the court herbalist in Zen’s country. I love this anime because it shows how independent a girl can be but the romance aspect is adorable as well.
This next manga/anime (I found the manga first) is also on my top favorite animes of all time, and that is Nana. I remember reading through this series so fast and being sad that it stopped being updated so seeing the series not only come to life in an anime but also a drama filled that hole that was left when there were no more new manga chapters. Nana is about two completely different girls with the same name who are brought together and through events end up living together and the story revolves around what happens in their life together. I love this show because it shows how their friendship deepens and how they attempt to support each other in romance, music, and heartbreaks that will ultimately test their unbreakable bond.
The next anime is another one from my young anime days and that is Fushigi Yuugi. This anime is about a girl named Miaka who was transported into the world of a book set in ancient China. She finds herself with the responsibility of being the priestess of Suzaku and must find all of her celestial warriors to summon Suzaku for three wishes. While finding the celestial warriors, she not only finds a new meaning in life but also finds love. I love this anime because of all the cute moments between her and her love interest and also love the OVA after this series.
The last anime on the list is an anime that should be on my “Animes I Forgot I Loved As A Teen” but is also on this list and that is Peach Girl. This anime revolves around an average high school girl named Momo who is different because of her tanned skin. Reading about this anime now makes me giggle because the reason why she is so tan is that she is a swimmer and tans easily, like why do people treat her differently because she tans easily?! Anyways, this anime is about a love triangle between Momo, her crush Toji and another boy named Kairi who is in love with Momo. I enjoyed this anime when I was younger because it shows a girl trying to be comfortable in her own skin and who doesn’t love a good love triangle.
Speaking of a good love triangle, there was a manga that I couldn’t help but put on the list and that is Parfait Tic. Parfait Tic is about a girl named Fuuko who’s life is changed when two cousins Daiya and Ichi move into the apartment upstairs. They also end up going to the same school as Fuuko and the manga revolves around their school life and her deciding which of the cousins she wants to be with. They also made it into a drama which I loved but I will always think of the manga when I think of this series.
Hana Yori Dango
Now it is time to move on to dramas and the first on the list is one of the first dramas I ever watched and will always be one of my favorite dramas, and that is Hana Yori Dango. Based off the manga and the anime, this story revolves around a girl named Makino Tsukushi, the only poor student going to a school that is ridiculously rich and privileged school that is ruled by 4 boys who come from extremely powerful families. Though Makino hopes to pass her days without drawing any attention to herself, she stands up to the leader of the 4 boys and becomes the target of bullying. But Makino being tough, she declares war on them back, winning the attention of the boys and the story revolves around Makino spending the time with the boys. If you have been following me for a while you already know my love for the character Domyoji Tsukasa, especially portrayed by Matsumoto Jun. You first see Domyoji as this tough leader of the boys but the more Makino is around, the more lovable he becomes. There are so many moments in the drama where Domyoji shows his love for Makino, it’s so innocent and adorable, it just makes my heart smile even thinking about it now.
The next drama is one of the first dramas I ever watched and that is Autumn’s Concerto. Autumn’s Concerto is about a wealthy lawyer who after losing all memories of his past travels to a rural village where a woman he once loved now lives with her son. This drama has so many cute moments and I remember when I watched it though it had a slow beginning became such an intense and really good drama at the end. Also as I am writing this I found out that THIS DRAMA IS ON NETFLIX! I plan on rewatching this again pretty soon.
For a while, I was really into only watching Dramas and I was on some website and came across this next drama. I watched the first couple of episodes and was suddenly sucked in and finished the series in a matter of days, that drama is You’re Beautiful. This drama is about a girl name Go Mi Nam who pretends to be her brother in a famous band not knowing the confusion and love that would follow her. This drama is so cute because it shows the innocence of love and has so many cute moments in the show. This also was the show that introduced me to one of my favorite actresses, Park Shin Hye, who played Go Mi Nam.
After watching You’re Beautiful, I was on a mission to watch more shows that Park Shin Hye was in and soon found this next drama. Pinocchio is about an inspiring reporter named Choi In Ha who has what is called the Pinocchio Syndrome where In Ha cannot tell a lie without breaking into violent hiccups. I love this drama because it shows the growth in all the characters and shows how the two main characters fall in love.
The next on this list is another show with Park Shin Hye, and that is The Heirs. The Heirs is about a boy named Kim Tan, a wealthy heir who while exiled to the states meets a Cha Eun-sang who went there to look for her sister. Despite being engaged, Kim Tan soon falls in love with Eun-sang. When Kim Tan returns to Korea, his ex-best friend who is now his enemy Choi Young-do begins taking interest in Eun-sang to irritate Kim Tan. When Young-do also falls in love with Eun-sang, Kim Tan is forced to choose between the responsibility of pursuing the family business or his heart. This show is so cute because you know me and my love triangles. Also, something about a wealthy snotty boy falling in love with a normal girl always automatically makes me like the show.
The last drama and the last on my list is a drama called Doctors. Doctors are about a girl named Yoo Hye-Jung who used to have a bad attitude and a closed heart towards people but after meeting her mentor and homeroom teacher Hong Ji-hong she inspires to work hard and become a doctor. 13 years later, the two reunite again when Yoo Hye-Jung becomes a doctor. I love this drama because you see Hye-Jung transform from this rebellious teenager to a full-blown doctor. Also, there may be a slight love triangle, and you know my love for love triangles.
