Hello and welcome to another blog post! If you guys have read my recent blog posts you know that I have been on a search to find my perfect drugstore foundation and I am here today to share with you my experiences! Along the way, I have found a few new favorite foundations, a few not so favorites and along the way found that my tastes have changed a little! So if you are interested in my foundation journey or are in need of finding a new drugstore foundation just keep on reading! Here is my Foundation Journey!
The Reason Behind the Journey
So you guys know that my current favorite foundation is the Fenty Beauty Pro Fil’tr Foundation in shade 190. Every moment I get to talk about this foundation I always do, it is my holy grail foundation and when I have a day where I need my base to look flawless I always grab this foundation. The only problem is that this foundation retails at $38.00. For a high-end foundation that is a pretty good price seeing as some can range in the $50-$60 range but with how often I’ve been doing a full face of makeup I have been going through it faster and buying it more often than I have been hoping for. So the journey for a drugstore foundation began!
What I’m Looking for in a Foundation
So since I loved the Fenty Beauty so much, my goal for this journey was to try to find a drugstore foundation that was comparable to it. If you haven’t heard or tried the Fenty Pro Filt’r foundation, it is a medium to full coverage foundation that is easily buildable and gives you a soft matte look. My skin type is normal to dry skin but out of a matte or a dewy finish, I usually go for a matte finish. This foundation gives me a beautiful matte finish without drying out my dry spots or breaking me out. So looking into foundations, I want a foundation that is long lasting, doesn’t dry or break me out and still give me a flawless matte base.
Brush of Choice
Before I get to talking about the foundations I want to first mention the brush I was using. With the Pro Filt’r foundation I was using the Fenty brush to apply it, so I wanted to get a different brush. Back when I wrote my Morphe Wish List blog post I mentioned that I wanted to try the Morphe M439 Deluxe Buffer Brush, well with this journey I thought now would be the perfect time to get it and try it! After testing it out with a bunch of different foundations I can say that this is a wonderful brush. No matter what the consistency of the formula, whether it be runny or creamier, this brush blends it out and gives you a photo ready finish. If you are looking for a new foundation brush, you should give this brush a try.
Now let’s get into the foundations!
L’oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation
The first foundation I tried is the Loreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation. According to the website, this foundation has an air-light texture with a demi-matte finish that is supposed to last up to 24 hours. The first time I tried it I didn’t really like it because the shade 102 (shell beige) had more pink undertones and even though it wasn’t noticeable to most it was noticeable to me and I didn’t like it but once I got my correct shade that was shade 101 (classic ivory) I warmed up to it more. I like this foundation in the sense that the finish is a matte finish but I like to build my foundation for more coverage and the more I tried to build the foundation the cakier it seemed to be on my dry spots by the end of the night.
Covergirl Outlast All-Day Foundation
The next foundation I tried was the Covergirl Outlast All-Day Foundation. This foundation is supposed to be a 3-in-1 formula that fuses primer, foundation, and concealer together for a flawless long-lasting finish. I really wish that drugstores had more testers because the first time around I got yet again a shade with more pink undertones (820 Creamy Natural) so I couldn’t really base my full opinion until I got my shade (810 Classic Ivory). To be honest I really wasn’t impressed with this foundation. With both shades, I still felt the need to put concealer on, especially under my eyes, so I didn’t really see the 3-in-1 effect that it claims to have as well as after a long day it was looking cakeier then flawless.
Maybelline Superstay Full Coverage Foundation
Before I got into more high-end foundation my all time favorite foundation was the Maybelline Fit Me Foundation but I hated the fact that I didn’t have a pump. So when I heard that Maybelline came out with a new foundation I knew I had to try it. This Superstay Full Coverage Foundation is supposed to be a full coverage foundation that lasts up to 24 hours for a flawless matte finish. I am shade 120 Classic Ivory and even though I heard mixed reviews of this foundation, I really like this foundation. It is full coverage without looking cakey, it doesn’t dry me out and gives me the finish I really like. Out of all the foundations I have tried, this foundation would be the closest to the Fenty Pro Filt’r foundation.
Covergirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir
So even though I found the perfect matte foundation to match the Pro Filt’r foundation, I didn’t want to end my Foundation Journey there. As I mentioned before, I normally lean towards more of a matte finish but after binge-watching a bunch of RawBeautyKristi videos and her talking about a few different foundations that have a more dewy finish I thought since I’m trying a bunch of foundations I would try them as well.
The first one she lives by is the Covergirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir foundation. This foundation is a hydrating, buildable foundation that vitamin-infused and leaves you with a flawless, healthy luminous glow. I remember putting this foundation on for the first time and noticing how healthy my skin looked. Continuing with finishing my base I found that I loved the way my skin looked. I was a little nervous trying this foundation because I didn’t like the other Covergirl foundation but this formula is completely different. This formula surpasses the wear that the Outlast all day foundation does and just makes my skin look healthy and flawless.
L’oreal Infallible Pro-Glow Foundation
The last foundation is another go-to Foundation that RawBeautyKristi uses and that is the dewy version of the Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation and that is the Infallible Pro-Glow Foundation. This foundation like the matte version is a 24-hour wear foundation but with a natural glow instead of a matte finish. I was expecting the same creamy consistency as the matte but was surprised when the foundation came out more runny. When I put it on I thought I wouldn’t like the glowy finish but was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked the way my skin looked. By the time I was done with my base, I couldn’t get over how much I loved the dewy glow look. I kept looking in the mirror and thinking to myself who is this person?! At the end of the day, I was kind of expecting the foundation to be cakey like the Pro-Matte but was surprised when my skin was looking just as flawless as it did when I first put it on. I can’t believe I’m saying this but I think I like the Pro-Glow foundation and the way it makes my skin look more than the Pro-Matte foundation did! I wonder how this foundation will live up when it starts getting more humid here… I guess I’ll just have to check back in and let you know in the future!
So that’s my Foundation Journey! I’m happy to have found a drugstore foundation that is comparable to my favorite Fenty Foundation at a cheaper price but also pleasantly surprised with other foundations I found along the way! It’s also nice to have a variety of foundations for different moods or if my skin is acting up so I can get a flawless look no matter how my skin is feeling. What is your favorite drugstore foundation? Have you tried any of these foundations that I mentioned?
